Panel I: Market Drivers and Societal Issues

Improvements in information sharing among healthcare devices and products could move home healthcare to the forefront of quality care delivery.With consumer education as well as appropriate regulatory and reimbursement policies in place, the markets for aging related products and services could reach into the hundreds of billions of dollars.

Box lunches will be handed out in the poster session area. This will provide ample opportunity to visit the more than 20 technology demos, case studies and poster presentations. Seating is provided in the NIST Employee Lounge, cafeteria and if the sun is shining, there is comfortable seating in the NIST outdoor courtyard. Blue “badge only” attendees can purchase lunch in the cafeteria.

Panel II: Gaps in the System: Technology

Why the “vision”difficult to implement  today? What gaps and barriers must be overcome? Why will interoperability make a difference?  In-home and self-care health technologies and devices today, implemented as isolated point solutions, fulfill a number of specific needs, but we are still a far way from a network of interoperable solutions that have the potential to revolutionize healthcare delivery systems in the United States.

The Health and Human Service's Office of the National Coordinator is leading the way to interoperability of electronic health data, facilitating broad adoption of standards and creating a core infrastructure for a national health network. Hear about the current status of electronic medical records and personal health records standardization and how this work will provide a foundation for the efforts to build digital healthcare systems.
