Information Technologies for Healthcare Workshop: Barriers to Implementation

On August 1-2, NIST's Information Technology Laboratory and Manufacturing Engineering Laboratory held the first in a series of workshops aimed at understanding the issues involved in the effective use of information technology for healthcare and related fields. The focus of this workshop was to identify the key issues and barriers to improve quality and productivity. Follow up steps include, developing a research roadmap to overcome these barriers and to determine the appropriate collaborations that NIST can have with industry and academia. Read Healthcare Information and Standards: A Concept Paper by Lisa Carnahan and Lynne Rosenthal of NIST (Adobe PDF version).
