SSD's
real-time extensions for the Java Platform cited in Sun Microsystems
Inc.'s Real-Time Specification for JavaTM
The efforts of SSD's Lisa Carnahan and Alden Dima are cited in Sun's specification. The NIST led Requirements
Working Group coalesced industry experts and produced NIST Special Publication (NIST SP) 500-243, "Requirements for
Real-Time Extensions to the JavaTM Platform: Report From the Requirements Group for Real-Time Extensions for
the Java Platform", which formed the basis for the Sun Real-Time Specification.
SSD SMPTE DDE Tests Confirm Specification Inconsistency in Collaboration with Microsoft
Along with companies such as DIRECTV, Intel, Liberate, and Microsoft, SSD is participating in the development
of the SMPTE DDE Standard. SSD is contributing by drafting text for the specification and developing tests. The DDE Group
discovered an inconsistency in the specification under development. We developed a test for the specific behavior and ran the test
within SSD's Interactive TV Lab. Microsoft also ran our test on their implementations. As a result of this joint testing, the
behavior intended by the DDE Group was identified and the specification corrected. In addition, Microsoft identified their implementations
that had the desired behavior.
SSD's Automatic Test Generation (ATG) project entered into a non-disclosure agreement with Ford Motor Company. Ford expressed an interest in the ATG
Method developed by Dr. Paul Black and submitted several small models to Paul to validate his method. Since these tests were successful, Ford wanted to
validate Paul's method on their models of actual Ford drivetrain behavior. SSD executed a non-disclosure with Ford in order to obtain these models.
Apache includes the NIST DOM Conformance Test
Suite in Xerces Project
The Apache Software Foundation (apache.org), the primary open source web site for XML software, includes the NIST Document Object Model (DOM) test suite
in their Xerces Project.
MICROSOFT PRESS RELEASE on XML Parser uses NIST XML Conformance Test Suite
July 31, 2000, Microsoft issued a press release announcing their newest XML parser passed 98% of the NIST/OASIS XML conformance test suite. This is an increase
in conformance over previous releases. The NIST/OASIS XML Conformance Test Suite helps ensure that vendors support the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) XML 1.0 Recommendation in a consistent way.

SSD Reference Implementation to be Used
Throughout Veterans Health Administration
The Veterans Health Administration (VHA), part of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), is one of
the nations largest healthcare providers with 270 hospitals. The VHA has selected SSD's Enterprise Single Sign On (ESSO) reference implementation for use within VHA hospitals.
ESSO was developed by Bill Majurski and Tony Cincotta in response to the need within VHA for a single logon to all of their hospital systems. In response to a notification that ESSO
was successfully tested with VHA systems, Eric Undesser, MD, PhD, CIO, Veterans Integrated Service Network XVI, said: "Wonderful! When can I have it?"
