5.2. Introduction 5.2.4. What are the elements of a simple experiment?

If a response is a (linear)
function of a single predictor, then the equation y= b_{o}
+ b_{1}x_{1} describes its behavior. The term
b_{o}
is the value of the response when the input factor
x_{1}
is 0 and b_{1} is the rate of change of the response with
unit change in the input.
For the multifactor case the equation expands to become: y = b_{o} + b_{1}x_{1} + b_{2}X_{2} + b_{12}X_{I}X_{2} . ..... This equation describes a plane (for two variables, a hyperplane for > 2 variables) rather than a straight line.
