October 19, 2007: Biometric Quality Workshop II - Update
Workshop program is posted here.
September 2007: Biometric Quality Workshop II
To identify research needs and discuss gaps in knowledge of biometric sample quality, NIST is organizing a workshop to take place in November 7-8, 2007 in Gaithersburg, Maryland. More information about this workshop can be found here.
April 2007: Quality Summarization
NIST has concluded a study of aggregation of quality values over a collection of samples, e.g. enterprise-wide summarization. The paper entitled Quality Summarization: Recommendations on Biometric Quality Summarization across the Application Domain provides technical guidance on use of generic quality algorithms in an enterprise. It gives a procedure for summarizing NFIQ values into a management information statistic reflective of the summary expected false non-match rate. A set of briefing slides is also available.
March 2007: New Publication on Evaluation
The April 2007 IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence includes a NIST paper on Evaluation of Biometric Quality Measures. This paper is the result of a study aimed at developing a procedure for assesssing how effective a sample quality algorithm is in predicting performance.
March 2006: Biometric Quality Workshop - Online Proceedings
NIST successfully hosted the first Biometric Quality Workshop in early March 2006. The 41 presentations are available here.
October 2005: Biometric Quality Bibliography
NIST is building an index of quality related articles. We request that readers send links to relevant reports, papers and other documents for inclusion.
October 2005: Biometric Quality Workshop
In March 2006 NIST will host a workshop dedicated to Biometric Quality Measurement. The announcement can be found here.
September 2005: NFIQ Presentation
Elham Tabassi presented the NFIQ method at the IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP) held in Genoa, Italy.
