Dr. Leonardo
Chiariglione, Convenor of International Standards Organization (ISO) / IEC
Joint Technical Committee Working Group 11 on MPEG (Moving Picture Experts
Group), expressed appreciation for the work by Wo Chang and Mike Rubinfeld of
the Information Access Division at NIST.
He recognized the contribution of NIST’s online document management
which has provided critical infrastructure for 15 major international meetings
supported by 25 countries attended by 300-400 participants at each
meeting. In his letter to Dr. Bement,
he noted that this service “has truly become a major resource to MPEG and the
associated benefits to the international community are immeasurable. Furthermore, the NIST service has been
expanded as a centralized depository for hosting standard reference software
and interoperability testing material such that all MPEG delegates can easily
access the needed materials to accelerate the standard process.” The archival services are utilized by over
3000 international MPEG delegates. The
actual data base approaches 4 Gigabytes and comprises close to 20,000
documents.
The letter
specifically recognized the “exceptional support of Mr. Wo Chang of NIST
managing this critical activity for MPEG and Mr. Mike Rubinfeld who has
initiated and coordinated the original activity.”
