ITL Participates in Usability Conference

 

Sharon Laskowski, Information Access Division, participated in a panel on voting and usability at the Usability Professionals Association 13th Annual Conference in June 2004, in Minneapolis, Minn.  Laskowski spoke on “Can Usability Save Democracy? Voting, Usability, and e-Participation.”  In the talk, she presented her findings and recommendations for improving the usability and accessibility of voting systems.  Laskowski is the author of NIST Special Publication 500-256, Improving the Usability and Accessibility of Voting Systems and Products.  Co-authors of the document are Marguerite Autry, John Cugini, William Killam, and James Yen.  The Web site is http://vote.nist.gov.

 

Mary Theofanos and Janice Redish presented a talk on “Achieving Experience Equity and Universal Usable Access:  Research Results and an Innovative Future.”  The talks were well received and stimulated the audience to consider a new paradigm for accessible applications.  The Web site is www.itl.nist.gov/iad/programs.html#USERS.
