Scope of the Workshop

This Topic Detection and Tracking workshop included an introduction to the TDT tasks, a description of algorithms and systems that addressed those tasks, and the presentation of results from a multi-site evaluation.

NIST has collected some of the presentations and system description papers given at the workshop. The remaining presentations are expected shortly.

The focus of this workshop was twofold. First to discuss the results of the TDT 2001 evaluation and second to discuss TDT's future work (i.e,. TDT 2002), particularly its directions as part of the DARPA TIDES program.

Attendees included individuals from sites participating in the TDT 2001 evaluation, those interested in TDT's relationship to TREC's filtering track, and those intending to participate in TDT 2002.
