    Topic Detection and Tracking Research Tasks

    There are 5 research applications defined in the TDT Program. They are:
    1. Story Segmentation
    2. Topic Tracking
    3. Topic Detection
    4. New Event Detection (formerly First Story Detection)
    5. Link Detection

    These applications are supported by TDT evaluation infrastructure, (i.e. evaluation metrics, software and corpora). The applications are abstractions of technologies that are needed in the real-world, but they have been cast into a form such that rigorous scientific experiments can be performed and repeated of necessary.
