Distribution of PHIGS Validation Tests

All PVT documentation can be found under PHIGS Validation Tests - Overview.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has developed an extensive set of test programs to determine whether implementations of the Programmer's Hierarchical Interactive Graphics System (PHIGS) conform to the specifications of ANSI/ISO standard 9592.1-1989. The tests are available for both the Fortran and C binding of PHIGS. Version 2.1 (released April 1994) of the PHIGS Validation Tests (PVT) adds tests for interactive modelling and error handling, and cleans up bugs and standard defects in version 2.0.

PVT freely available

NIST is making the documentation and code for the PVT available on the World-Wide Web (WWW) and via anonymous ftp. We hope to achieve two purposes: 1) the dissemination of the PVT to a wider audience of those with an interest in 3-D graphics, thereby encouraging more testing of PHIGS implementations and 2) the use of hypertext as a valuable medium for navigating around the various components of this large and complex system of software and documentation. For instance, users can jump directly between a given part of the standard and the part of the PVT that tests it.

Only the Fortran code is accessible via WWW. The entire PVT system (Fortran and C) may be obtained via anonymous FTP. These tests are freely available to the public and are not subject to copyright. No warranty is expressed or implied as to their correctness.
