4.3 Statistical Approaches to Data Mining
David L. Banks, Mark Levenson This workshop was given at the National Institutes for Health on December 3. For a biological audience, it reviewed some of the problems and possibilities for data mining methods. Particular emphasis was put upon the analysis of superlarge datasets, and the attendent problems of multidimensional data. The course reviewed ideas in smoothing and nonparametric regression, and gave a detailed account of additive modelling and the backfitting algorithm.
